Negari, a powerful, curated, immersive experience of bearing witness to selected lived experiences of women in conflict settings in Ethiopia.
Negari is powered by the Setaweet Movement, a contemporary Ethiopian feminist collective dedicated to advocacy, truth-telling, and memorialization. The project seeks to contribute to Ethiopia’s national healing and reconciliation by documenting gender-based violence (GBV) against women in conflict-affected regions.

Call for Justice and for Accountability
In light of the stories of Ethiopian women in conflict settings that our team has shared with the public, we call on the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to give priority, sufficient attention and to take seriously its international and constitutional obligations to ensuring access to justice and accountability for Ethiopian women and girls who are victims of conflict related violence. Bearing witness to the plight of thousands of Ethiopian women at this juncture of history, we respectfully ask:
1. The government to reconsider its policy of forced return of vulnerable civil ians where their safety cannot be guaranteed and while no provision has been made for non-repeat of violence,
2. To undertake sincere and impartial investigation into the many inter-commu nal disputes that characterize Ethiopia at the present time, with each conflict marked on the bodies and dignities of Ethiopian women and girls.
3. To hold its armed forces and members of other armed groups accountable for any harm encountered by civilians and to pay particular attention to the extent of sexual violence experienced by women and girls in conflict situations.
4. To center the experiences of civilians and particularly of women and girls in conflict resolution efforts, and in particular in rewarding former fighters with po sitions of power at the cost of accountability.
5. To work towards a cessation of hostilities between its armed forces and that of armed groups in various parts of the country.
6. To allocate funding and human resources to a serious attempt at providing reparations to survivors of violence all over the country
